Give your body the chance to take you on a journey of self-awareness and discovery.
"We are movement" Emilie Conrad
What to expect:
Dance of awareness (DoA) is an exploration of what it is to be in a body. It has roots in developmental theory (see DoA website - link below). From 10:45am we will start with a slow Sunday stretch and warm up to music.
Around 11:05am there will be an opening circle followed by an arrival meditation where we focus on sensing our own physical being. After this we will go through the remaining phases in the dance of awareness cycle; grounding, expressing, releasing, connecting and completing. We will move on our own, in pairs and in small groups. We will mix free flow dance/expression with structured exercises. There will be music to accompany us a lot of the time. We will finish with a closing circle at 1:00pm.
These sessions are suitable for all adults over 18 years of age with any experience of dance or movement. There are no steps to learn. All abilities are welcome. Access to the hall is up 2 steps. If you would need assistance with that please contact me in advance (ring/text/e-mail). Please wear clothing that you are comfortable to move in. Dance barefoot or in indoor shoes. Bring water to drink or it will be available from the kitchen. You may wish to bring a blanket for quiet still times.
There is no parking at the hall. If you’ve not been before please take time to find a parking place and walk to the hall.
The sessions will be facilitated by Laurence Yeoman who has over 35 years of embodied movement experience. Each session is 'drop in' - no need to book Cost: £10 or £5 concessions; cash or card on the door.
